Whether you live in a tiny apartment or a sizeable house, the truth is – we could all benefit from having a little more space. Here are some of the best multipurpose (and space saving!) products out there, courtesy of organization expert Clare Kumar
PRODUCTS THAT ARE COMPACT
The grater handle twists flat for storage and into a unique position for extremely comfortable and stable grating.
This colander is made of stainless steel and high-quality silicone. It collapses for storage and cleaning and is about the size of one plate in the dishwasher. I love the fact that all parts that come in contact with food remain exposed for cleaning.
You may not always use a dish rack but when you need one, why not roll it into place? It will fit over your sink, keeping dishing clean and easy to air-dry, yet drip into the sink and then roll away into a small space.
This incorporates two essential whisks in one design. As a flat whisk, it is ideal for mixing sauces in low pans or for making gravy in roasting trays. What I love is that it won’t snag on your drawer when you try to open it. The wires are silicone coated so they won’t scratch surfaces. It also separates for cleaning and is entirely dishwasher safe.
PRODUCTS THAT MULTITASK
This is not just a full length beveled mirror, inside hides a wealth of storage for jewelry and accessories. It is lockable and has an interior mirror with LED light and tarnish inhibiting lining.
This dual purpose product is made to order in Italy. The ottomon comes apart in less than a minute to create 5 separate seats. The fabrics—in a wide variety of colours—make this piece functional and fun. It stands at 18” tall, making it perfect for dining or occasional seating when entertaining.
PRODUCTS THAT STACK
This space saving design allows large cooking utensils to nest together – minimizing space in a drawer, but even better, you can stand them up on the counter on their own. No bulky container required.
All this in the space of one large bowl: 1/6-cup, 1/4-cup, 1/3-cup, 1/2-cup, 1-cup, 1/2-liter bowl, sieve, 3-liter colander and a 4-1/2-liter mixing bowl. In addition, the colour looks fantastic on open shelves. The Sieve requires hand washing, but all else pops into the dishwasher.
Saves storage space and is display worthy on open shelving, keeping the following tools handy:
A funnel with attachment for pouring sauces and liquids into containers
A lemon juicer
A spice grater for making things such as fresh ginger or garlic
An egg masher for making egg salad and other dishes in a jiffy
A cheese grater (Add a sprinkle of fresh Parmesan on your pasta)
A lid grip/opener for those stubborn jar lids
An egg yolk separator
A measuring cup that measures up to 420ml
