Fall's must-have beauty products

Fall is here, and that means there’s a whole new batch of exciting beauty products and trends to try! Beauty writer, Rema Gouyez-Benallal, highlights her favourite beauty trends of the season and the products that will help you achieve them.

TREND: WINE LIPS
Wine-coloured lips are where it’s at for fall! Carolina Herrera boasted a berry lip that was more of a matte stain than an opaque sweep of colour, like Ruffian. This look is simple and really pretty in its finish. The great thing about a matte lip too is that it lasts a lot longer and is more likely to stay put.

PRODUCT: BURBERRY LIP VELVET IN BRIGHT POPPY
Get the look with this highly pigmented lipstick. Tap it onto the lips, smudging it in with your fingers; there’s no need to be precise with your application.

TREND: BRAIDED HALO (above)
There were a couple of shows for Fall 2014 that featured braids as a headband and I love this look because although it’s traditionally a spring hairstyle, it's a fun way to add contrast to a fall makeup look.

PRODUCT: L’ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL SCRUFF ME GEL
This gel product will help you to add a little texture to this hairstyle. You can use it to smooth out the strands without a super shiny finish or rough up the texture a bit for a tousled effect.

TREND: DIVERGENT CAT EYE
At Dior Resort, we saw a different take on Nicholas K’s reverse cat eye. Now we’re talking about a trend we’ve seen a ton of celebs sport recently: the divergent cat eye. Yes, it has a purpose! This technique offers an interesting take on the classic wing, but also dramatically opens up the eye.

PROUCT: BENEFIT THEY’RE REAL! PUSH-UP LINER
This is my favourite because it makes it so easy to achieve a cat eye. To get the look, simply draw a cat-eye flick as you normally would (starting with the flick and then connecting it down to the lash line is usually the easiest way). Then, take your liner to the outer corner of your bottom lash line and draw a line straight out towards the ear.

TREND: ’60s HAIRDO (above)
The ‘60s mod look was huge at luxury shows like Versace and Nina Ricci. In combination with cat-eye flicks, this is the kind of beauty look that just looks so feminine and sexy.

PRODUCT: KÉRASTASE V.I.P. POWDER
Unlike hairspray, this powder will give you lift with a matte, clean finish. A headband is a great accessory to amplify that volume and get your hair out of your face, too. I love this look for work.

TREND: NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP LOOK
The no-makeup makeup trend is really starting to take off. Narcisco Rodriguez and Phillip Lim focused more on perfect skin for Fall 2014 beauty. For 2015, Marc Jacobs went as far as to not put any makeup on the models—just moisturizer!

PRODUCT: ESTÉE LAUDER EE CREAM
I know what you’re thinking—yet another for the beauty alphabet! This EE cream (for “even effect”) offers a uniform complexion with a dewy finish. If you want a matte finish, just set it with a powder, but what I like most about this product is that it provides a beautiful glow to the skin with a perfecting property.

TREND: METALLIC NAILS
At Mara Hoffman and several other fall shows, we saw metallic nails. Whether it was metallics on negative space or an all-over lacquer, gilded tips were prominent on the fall runways. Metallics are a nice way to accessorize your look without having to stick to a specific colour theme and the bonus is that they go with everything!

PRODUCT: SALLY HANSEN MIRACLE GEL IN GAME OF CHROMES
This formula is hands down the best drugstore nail polish around. It provides a glossy, gel-like finish that doesn’t chip the next day.
