The sheer trend is back and sexier than ever

Caitlin Connelly/The Social
Sheer clothing is definitely having a moment on the spring and summer runways this year. In the spring, it’s about layering those sheer pieces and in the summer, it’s the perfect fabric to wear on its own for these 30+ temps we’re having.

The trend can be intimidating, but remember, doing sheer doesn’t automatically mean giving the world a peep show because with the right styling, like wearing a transparent piece under or over your opaque staples, you can easily work sheer into your wardrobe. Plus, there are a lot of pieces out there with only sheer details so you can dip your toes into the trend.

Stylist Erica Wark shows us how to rock the trend with the four looks below.

LOOK 1: SHEER MAXI
Check out this partially sheer maxi from Torrid, sheer only below the knee, this is an easy way to get in on the trend. It’s also light for summer and something you can wear to the office with a simple jacket on top and a pair of flats.

LOOK 2: SHEER JUMPSUIT
This jumpsuit from Michael Kors is another great way to ease into transparency this season with just a simple sheer sleeve. Even though the sleeves are long, the sheerness adds a nice light vibe to the whole look, making it a great choice for a summer event. For a seamless and elevated look, I went with metallic accessories, all from Nordstrom.

LOOK 3: SHEER TOP
Underneath, Erica styled this top with a black bandeau to keep the look really clean. Because the top is striped with a circular fabric pattern, it’s on the busier side, which means you want to keep the bra underneath very simple. On the bottom, a great pair of culottes from Evernew, and then I finished off the look with a bag from Zara and shoes of Nordstrom.

LOOK 4: SHEER SET
The kimono and complementing wide leg pant are both from Zara. They make a real statement when worn together, but the pieces styled separately will look amazing as well. Wear the kimono with a pair of black skinnies or the pants with a form-fitting top in your favourite colour pulled from the print.
